Privacy Policy — PetMed: Care & Pill Tracker

PetMed: Care & Pill Tracker ("PetMed", "the app", "we") is a local-first Android application that helps you track your pets' medications, schedules, and dosing history. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. The short version: your data stays on your device.

1. Data we collect

We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking SDKs of any kind.

All information you enter — including:

• Pet profiles (name, animal type, breed, age, weight, date of birth)
• Medications, dosages, schedules, and food instructions
• Dose history (taken / skipped logs and timestamps)
• Your premium/subscription status cache

…is stored only on your device in a local database (SQLite) and the device secure keystore. None of it is sent to us or to any third-party server.

2. Optional Family Sync and backup (your own Google Drive)

PetMed offers an optional, off-by-default Premium feature that backs up and synchronises your PetMed data between your own devices using your own Google account. If you choose to enable it:

• Your data is encrypted on your device before upload (XChaCha20-Poly1305).
• The encrypted file is stored only in the private app-data area of your own Google Drive (appDataFolder), which other apps cannot read.
• The developer has zero visibility and zero access to this data. There is no developer server involved at any point — the transfer happens directly between your device and your Google Drive.
• You can delete the synced data at any time from Google Drive (Settings → Manage apps) or by disabling sync, and Google's handling of your Drive storage is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

If you never enable sync, nothing ever leaves your device.

3. Notifications

Medication reminders are scheduled and delivered locally on your device by the Android system. No reminder content leaves your phone.

App update check

When PetMed starts, it reads a small public configuration file that contains only a version number, so the app can tell you when a critical update is available. This request sends no personal data and does not identify you — it only compares your installed app version. If your device is offline, the app continues to work normally.

4. Purchases

Optional Premium plans (monthly, annual, and lifetime) are sold through Google Play Billing. When you buy or restore a purchase, Google processes the transaction and your payment details. We never see or store your payment information. Google's handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. The app only stores a local flag indicating whether Premium is active.

5. Health-related information

All medication records in PetMed relate to animals, not people. The app's optional drug-interaction alerts are generated entirely on your device from a small, built-in reference list; they are informational only and are not veterinary advice.

6. Permissions

• Notifications — to show medication reminders.
• Schedule exact alarms — to fire reminders at the precise dose time.
• Ignore battery optimizations (optional) — so reminders remain reliable when the phone is idle.
• Folder access (optional, user-initiated) — only when you tap "Save PDF to Phone", to write the report into the folder you pick.

These permissions are used solely for on-device functionality.

7. Children

PetMed is a general-audience utility for pet owners and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.

8. Data retention & deletion

Because all data is stored locally (or, if you enable sync, in your own Google Drive), you are in full control:

• Use Settings → Delete All Local Data to permanently erase everything in the app.
• Uninstalling the app removes all of its local data from your device.
• If you enabled sync, remove the app's hidden data in Google Drive via Drive → Settings → Manage apps.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at this URL.
